Hahaha, more pugilism and less honey! Winnie the Pooh!! That is very funny, and true. He does remind me of Winnie. It's been some time since I last saw Winnie the Pooh, but now that you mention it, Rocky is a lot like Winnie.

He did have a very gentle demeanor, that didn't fit any type of criminal. And thanks for resolving the whole Paulie issue. He is a very negative person, especially with the fit that he throws in the middle of the film. It seems that whenever things don't go his way, Paulie can't handle it. I just wonder how he would react if his chips were ever REALLY down. Guess I gotta start watching the sequels then!

I just added "The Tao of Pooh" to my reading list. Seriously, that looks like a great book (thanks for mentioning it to me!).

Success in defeat is what Rocky is all about :)

Thanks for the comment Steve, I hope your 2010 is off to a great start!

I like your take on Rocky and why karma saw fit to grant him a shot at the big time. I see Rocky's approach to life to be a lot like Winnie the Pooh's, only with more pugilism and less hunny. While he never gave up on his dream, he wasn't always really chasing after it either, he was just plodding along with his life as it came to him. He lived near a pet shop so that became a part of his routine (caring for turtles seemed like a strange hobby given his lifestyle), he was a down and out fighter in a rough neighbourhood so he naturally gravitated towards criminal elements (his gentle demeanour didn't fit this career otherwise), he grew up around Paulie so he's his friend (I don't see him hanging out with such a negative guy otherwise). Rocky had things happen to him, and he had the right kind of attitude to be able to handle that kind of thing without out letting it change him. (Maybe I've read The Tao of Pooh too many times...)

I also especially liked that <> he didn't win at the end of the film, that they saved it for the sequel <>. Too rosy an ending would have been too big a contrast from where things started out, and would not have been a testament to his staying power and indominable spirit: Success in defeat.
